i often receive questions regarding my skin routine and how I manage, (or more so try) to keep my glow year round. between 100+ degree Texas summers and freezing cold DC Winters, it's no easy task but it is possible! here are some of my skin do's and in my next post get a glimpse of some of my current beauty faves!
DRINK MORE WATER
I drink water when I wake up, before I go to bed, and nine times out of ten I have a bottled water in my one of my bags. by now you know water is beneficial for several reasons: it flushes out toxins, keeps you hydrated, evens out complexion, gives you energy, and it's (usually) free! during my sophomore year of high-school, i dubbed soda. i didn’t drink it heavy, but once i started paying attention to how it tasted & rlly made me feel, i was over it. a bunch of high fructose corn syrup, unnatural caffeine and made me hella burpy. since I cut out soda and really upped my water intake, I notice that my body just FEELS better, including my skin.
PRO TIP: if you just can't seem to get into drinking as much water as you should be, try adding cucumber or strawberries to your water to make it cute & taste better :)
(& i mean NEVER)
SLEEP WITH MAKE UP ON
it's two in the morning and you're just getting back from that super fun art show on 14th st. you're 2 steps away from ripping off your bra and taking off your uncomfortable but cute high-waisted jeans and all you want to do is make love to your bed but you remember you have a full face of make up on.
WASH IT OFF SIS
sleeping with your make up on is one of the WORST things you can do to your precious face. each night your skin rejuvenates itself, when you sleep with makeup on, it trap those vicious oils, your sweat, the city’s pollutants and any other funk you may have been exposed to inside your pores. trust me, I completely understand but you’ll thank yourself the next day when you wake up with a smooth, fresh face.
PRO TIP: if you can't muster up the energy to wash it all off, invest in some quality make up remover wipes. at least then you'll minimize the effect of your pores going into overdrive the next day.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
ABOUT SKIN CARE
-switch up your skincare products every few months so your skin doesn’t get too accustomed to the same things. definitely switch them up as the seasons change because your skin needs different nutrients when the air and weather change.
- even if you don’t wear make up that day, that doesn’t mean you have a clean face. let’s not forget about all the products that you put in your hair that easily transfer to your face. or all the germs being transferred from your hands to your face from the many door handles you’ve grabbed or even from your own laptop *gags*. the day’s funk is more than likely still on you and most important is to sleep with a clean face.
